Pony is an historic mining town grown over in wilderness and beauty. It is the end of the road, the last stop before the the surface of the earth ignores all humanity, wraps itself in pure nature, and rises up into the Tobacco Root Mountains by itself. The neighbors are more deer than people. There are no tourist attractions unless you count the Pony Bar. There’s nowhere to get a decent latte. Nothing much ever happens. For some who know its charm, there is no better place in the world to be.
The Pony Cabin is a small two bedroom, one bathroom house surrounded by trees, mountains, and fresh air. Inside are a coffee maker, washer, dryer, refrigerator, furniture, silverware, games, and a kitchen table over which stories get told, thoughts get contemplated, and occasionally, some important decisions get made -- it can also be used for dining. Outside is a wood burning hot tub and a creek.
Yellowstone park is 100 miles away. Much nearer are Harrison and the 287 Diner (6 miles), Norris and Norris Hot Springs (15 miles), the city of Bozeman with all its shops, skiing, and other activities (50 miles), and several of Pony’s fellow ghost towns scattered throughout western Montana. The Pony Bar, park, post office, church, old school house, and everything else in Pony is within walking distance.
